Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) is a minimally invasive technique used in the removal of tissue obstructing the nasal passage and the facilitation of drainage while conserving the normal non-obstructing anatomy and mucous membrane. During the procedure, a rigid fiberoptic nasal telescope provides vision into the nasal passage, allowing the surgery to be focused precisely on key affected areas.
FESS is usually reserved for use in patients in whom medical treatment has failed and is used to treat a number of conditions including Nasal polyps, Sleeping problems, Chronic nasal blockage, Nose bleeding and other nose problems.
Nasal polyps are soft, painless, noncancerous growths on the lining of your nose or sinuses. They often occur in groups, like grapes on a stem and are caused by chronic inflammation due to infection, allergies, drug sensitivity or immune disorders. Symptoms may include runny nose, stuffiness or post-nasal drip, loss of sense of smell etc.
In Kelina Hospital, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is regularly performed. Patients usually experience little or no discomfort during procedure which can last up to 3 hours. Patient can go home within 3 to 5 days after surgery. Contact 08033 644 644 or 0812 990 8324 to book an appointment with our Consultant ENT Surgeon.
